Depression, and other mental health issues, affect nearly 25 percent of people at some point in their life. Depression is likely one of the most commonly encountered mental health difficulties, usually jointly experienced with anxiousness.

However, depression is more than just being unhappy with the way life is at this point. Those that have depression would face consistent feelings of low moods which never seem to go away.

Low moods, anxiety feelings and catastrophe thinking are standard amongst those experiencing depression as is low energy, weight changes and trouble sleeping. Depression may also make a person experience low self-esteem, and actually feel helpless or have negative thoughts.

Generally past ordeals or a person’s environment can have a huge effect on their feelings, causing mental health problems such as depression. In today’s society there is huge expectation of people to conform to everyday things, to be successful at work or retain the expectations of family life.

These expectations can make us genuinely feel overloaded and not up to the task of “life” and this can setup the environment for depressive problems. Without the proper help though, depression may become very serious which is why it is extremely important to change the behaviour of the brain and aim to improve the emotions connected with depression.

Depression may result in feelings of worthlessness, increased anxiousness and stress which may heavily influence on day to day life. The hopelessness and fatigue people feel often destroys the enthusiasm they need to seek out worthwhile treatment that can turn those feelings around.

Medication, cognitive behavioural therapy and hypnotherapeutic treatments are all ways to treat depression. Hypnotherapy uses various techniques that help to change any patterns of detrimental thinking, re-balance thought patterns and re-establish more rational thinking. This can make considerable inroads to the depressive feelings and slowly move the person onto the road of recovery.

Hypnosis therefore looks to replace unfavourable patterns of behaviour within the mind, with favourable views and feelings which can ultimately help a person to contend with general day to day life more successfully. Hypnotherapy combined with other specialist techniques can help to beat depression and in turn strengthen confidence, self-esteem and self-worth, with incredible results in all aspects of life.

Keith Dorrington from Hypnotherapy Blackheath based in Blackheath, London explained why in their view hypnosis is extremely effective in eliminating depression, “Depression is a mixture of negative events in our life that are still unresolved, by this, I mean we still have negative feelings attached to past traumatic situations. By using hypnotherapy and other specialist techniques, we take away the unwanted feelings from the events so that they become just memories and the person can now  be free to move on with their life”.
