Hypnotherapy for Confidence
Is it possible to get too much confidence?
Unbridled, unlimited confidence is not the universal solution to all life’s problems that some make it out to be. But lack of confidence in yourself weakens your ability to carry out everyday tasks.
It’s like a ‘thought virus’ that spreads into all areas of your life. Ultimately, paralysing many from taking on new challenges, from learning or developing skills and knowledge, or taking steps to improve their lot in life. This is where hypnotherapy for confidence can help.
The circle of strife
Confidence, or lack of it, is a self-perpetuating loop. Our brains function by constantly looking for patterns to organise our sense of reality. Bad experiences reinforce negative beliefs, which then affect future behaviour. So, if we are convinced that we lack confidence, our mind will look for proof to confirm this belief.
What the thinker thinks the prover proves
If we consider that the human has two main functions: a thinker and a prover. The thinker part of our mind can think about anything at all. However, the prover has no such luxury. Whatever the thinker thinks, the prover has to arrange all incoming information to prove that thought to be true.
So, if someone believes they are lucky, their prover will sort and filter all incoming data to prove that belief to be true and the same goes for unlucky. If they believe they are not good enough, the prover will sort and filter incoming data to prove why they are not good enough.
But suppose you believe you will always be poor, that life is difficult, and that ‘everyone’ hates you. Your prover will find evidence to confirm those beliefs as well. On the flip side suppose you believe that you will be successful and rich, that life is a exciting, and that everyone likes you and thinks you are funny. Your prover will create an iron clad case to prove those beliefs to be correct too. This is why, when we are using hypnotherapy for confidence, we release old negative beliefs and install new and more exciting beliefs. Perhaps you could ask yourself right now which type of belief would you want!
How does this work?
Problem is, the mind likes to cut corners and cheat, we tend to generalise events. Do we truly lack confidence in all interactions? Highly unlikely, there are probably only a number of key activities in which you actually lack confidence, while you are perfectly confident in most other situations.
We also often distort events: did ‘everyone’ consider your performance at a given activity poor or only you? Do you know for a fact that people have judged you or only imagine it? Finally, we can be a bit pessimistic and delete events to confirm our bias: do you always lack confidence or are there occasions when you have felt very confident?
Getting hold of confidence
Thing is, confidence is no more than an idea, it’s not a tangible thing you can pick up or bottle. You already have as much of it as you ever will. You had plenty of it when you were born. There was nothing you thought you couldn’t do.
Confidence is rather a way of thinking and behaving that creates a powerful loop, affecting physiology and psychology. By using hypnotherapy for confidence we endeavour to help you change that way of thinking.
