Handling stress at work

It does not matter what your location is on the corporate ladder you can still be affected by stress at work. Here we take a look at how corporate hypnotherapy strategies may help with these common issues.

Workplace stress getting you down? You’re not alone.

The office can be a hotbed for hassle, anxiousness and all manner of panic and turmoil, regardless of where you are on the employment hierarchy. According to one study (1) stress, depression and anxiousness accounted for 39% of all workplace illnesses in 2013/2014.

Are you at the top of the tree, finding yourself affected by challenging staff, reaching targets or the tough business conditions? Even if you’re at the bottom of the ladder you will still be having to fulfil the expectations of your managers and the colleagues around you and perhaps you’re struggling to keep up with the demands?

Even though employees would rarely admit to suffering stress for fear of being considered weak, the sad fact is that stress underpins the great majority of employee absenteeism. Co-workers can feel the pressure of a colleague’s absence, and this can produce bad feelings or resentment, especially if they truly feel let down.

Even though it is the responsibility of the employer to actually manage staff stress levels and do all they can to reduce them, it is also the responsibility of the staff member to seek help where relevant.

In the commercial world it is not uncommon for the employee just to soldier on and sooner or later they have a breakdown and stop being effective in any way. As stress spirals, judgments, energy levels and ability to relate with co-workers gets harder. At this point their productivity is compromised and generally this is when it comes to the attention of the company because they notice a problem with the employee’s output when things begin to go awry.

This is where hypnotherapy can help. Hypnotherapy tackles the underlying thoughts, feelings and beliefs which are setting up or maintaining stress, as well as teaching coping systems for the present.

More often than not, our ability to succumb to stress is caused by a trauma or issue that is much deeper than just the environment we are presently working or living in.

A hypnotherapist would normally look for any underlying problems and remove or alter the effect it is having on the worker’s emotional mind as well as teaching the staff member how to relax properly. Not only does hypnosis remove the effects of stress in their working life but also it often has a powerful effect on the home life as well.

It is a mutually beneficial situation for the employee and the company and if firms invested more in their employee’s mental health we would have far fewer sick days which is great for our economy as well.
